Summer Island's chefs won top prizes in the 2019 Hotel Asia Exhibition and International Culinary Challenge held at Dharubaaruge earlier this month.
The culinary competition, which has been running for 15 years, featured local and foreign chefs competing against each other across a range of categories.
Summer Island’s chefs bagged medals in a total of nine competitions. Winning a Gold Medal in the category to prepare a Maldivian dish was Mohamed Faneez.
G. W. Dinesh Madushanka won silver in the category ‘Hot Cooking Beef’, and went on to win a Bronze medal in ‘Hot cooking Fish Fillet’. In the category ‘Creative Asian Dish’, Chef Ramesh Ramasamy won silver.
Mohamed Kannaiyan and Pushkar secured Bronze medals in the ‘Hot Cooking Fish Fillet’ and ‘Hot Cooking Poultry’ categories, respectively.
More Summer Island winners include Byju Chathoth Kurun Gara, Roman Miah, and Shankar Karuppusamy.
At the 2019 South Asia Travel Awards in July, Summer Island was crowned "South Asia’s Leading Beach Resort” for the third consecutive year. It also won “Leading Beach Resort in Maldives,” for the third year in a row.
