Parliament's Budget Committee reviews 120 audit reports

Chair of the Parliament's Budget Committee and Kinbidhoo MP Mohamed Nashiz, on Tuesday, stated that a total of 120 audit reports were reviewed by the committee till date.

Speaking at the Maldives Accountants Forum 2019, Nashiz revealed that approximately 800 audit reports were in need of review when the committee commenced operations. He attributed the progress in completing reviews to the dedicated work of committee members.

Analysing, presenting recommendations and forwarding the proposed actions concerning audit reports submitted by the Auditor General to relevant institutions falls under the mandate of the Budget Committee.

The committee chair disclosed that the Auditor General's Office provided technical assistance throughout the review process.

The Kinbidhoo MP also asserted that efforts were underway to monitor financial aspects and ensure the accountability of the government and state-owned enterprises.

"In order to stop corruption, auditors must adhere to professional standards".

Nashiz guaranteed that the parliament would provide full support to the government in implementing its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption.
