Gulf Air to begin operations in Maldives

Gulf Air, the national carrier of Bahrain, announced it would commence operations in Maldives before the end of 2019.

Bahraini representative at the Maldives Partnership Forum, Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Qaud expressed the opinion that the decision would benefit the Maldivian tourism industry.

Furthermore, Al Qaud revealed that the Bahraini government and several private businesses had expressed interest in investing in Maldives.

The Bahraini representative also commended the current government's development agenda.

In recent years, an increase in the number of Middle-eastern tourists visiting Maldives was recorded. In 2018, a total of 53,000 middle-eastern holidaymakers travelled to the county. Until April 2019, about 19,000 Middle-eastern tourists visited Maldives which constitutes an increase of 2,000 compared to the previous year.
