The recent spate of gang violence in the Maldives continued as another man was stabbed in the capital Male on Monday.

Eyewitnesses said a group had attacked and stabbed the man near a mosque in Henveiru ward who was quickly rushed to the hospital.

Police said the incident was under investigation but said a dispute between two gangs was believed to be behind the latest stabbing.

The victim was being treated at the privately run ADK Hospital in Male, police said.

Sources said the 21 year old victim had been stabbed in the head and arm.

The latest gang related violence came after two fourteen year old boys were stabbed and killed in Male in what police say was a dispute between two gangs.

Ahmed Irushan was stabbed in the neck on Friday while Fathir Mohamed was stabbed in the back three hours later in what police believe was a revenge killing.

Police said the dispute between two notorious gangs in Male “Vai Kanmathi” and “Eagles” occurred last Friday.

Seven minors and an adult remain in custody in connection to the violence.

A gang fight in the southernmost Atoll Addu left five injured on Saturday.
