Privately run ADK Hospital Pvt Ltd was appointed main sponsor to the first medical and health fair to be held in the Maldives.

“Maldives Medical and Health Expo” organiser MV Medicals’ marketing and public relations manager Abdul Jaleel Hussain and ADK Hospital’s managing director Ahmed Afaal signed the agreement at a ceremony held at ADK Hospital on Monday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Afaal said the Maldives’ health sector now boasts several state-of-the-art medical procedures and services. Noting that the necessity for medical trips abroad are now rare, he said the lack of information related to the public regarding services available locally has led to general public assumption that major treatments must be sought overseas.

“As the Maldives’ health industry has thus advanced, we believe this will be a great opportunity to share and raise public awareness on these services, how to obtain them, which services are available and the quality of services offered in the Maldives,” said Afaal.

Cosponsored by ADK Pharmaceutical Co Pvt Ltd, the subsidiary of ADK Company which imports medical drugs and appliances to the archipelago, Maldives Medical and Health Expo will be held from November 24 to 26 at the National Art Gallery in capital Male.

The expo is hosted collaboratively by MV Medicals, a private firm that procures medical assistance from neighbouring states, and MedLife Asia. In addition to medical procedures and services currently available in the Maldives, the expo will also dispense information on treatments available in some other states. With a total of 21 stalls including some hospitals from India and Sri Lanka, the fair’s organisers are working to invite some medical parties from Malaysia and Singapore as well.

MV Medicals had earlier stated this fair will play a key role in advancing medical tourism in the Maldives.
