Leading resort operator, Soneva, launched its 'Soneva Changemakers Website' in honour of Earth Day, April 22.

In a press release, Soneva shared that the website will showcase sustainability initiatives led by its staff, such as coral reef protection in Maldives, waste-to-wealth creation from waste products, recycling glass to art, water sports activities with local communities, and proactive recruitment drives to improve the career prospects of women working in the tourism industry.

Described as "a celebration of the power of the individual to make a difference", the website features notable staff such as Ali Adil, the astronomer at Soneva Jani, Ellie Butler, the Marine Biologist at Soneva Jani, and Gordon Jackson, the Waste to Wealth Manager. Other notable personalities include Fathimath Shaazleen, the Resort Manager at Soneva Jani, and Rocket, the fisherman at Soneva Fushi.

"The real heroes of our sustainability initiatives are our employees, the committed and passionate individuals that make up Soneva and who are behind every positive figure in our sustainability reports. These are the Soneva Changemakers", said Soneva's CEO Sonu Shivdasani.

Soneva Changemakers Website also features the Soneva Total Impact Assessment (TIA), an accounting system that measures the company’s total impact on the planet. According to Soneva, TIA which was commissioned in 2015, allows for more precise sustainability interventions in the company’s operations and supply chain.

TIA measures impact in the five categories of Natural Capital, Human Capital, Social Capital, Economic Capital and Tax, assessing the impact of both the company's direct activities as well as those of its supply chain. The company uses the data to adapt its operational procedures to further reduce the gap between positive and negative impacts.

“We are proud to see that our net positive impact increased considerably from the previous year. This is further highlighted as we remain carbon neutral, which includes indirect emissions such as guest flights”, said Arnfinn Oines, Soneva’s Social and Environmental Conscience.

Regarding the website, Soneva's CFO and Deputy CEO Bruce Bromley stated that the Changemakers stories demonstrate that leadership on sustainability is embedded in the company's strata.

"Sustainability is in our DNA. The Soneva Total Impact Assessment informs and fine tunes our decision making and supports our continuing efforts to pioneer environmentally and socially responsible tourism".

Soneva is a world-renowned operator of luxury hospitality properties and products. The brand currently owns and manages three properties in Maldives; Soneva Fushi in Baa Atoll, Soneva Jani in Noonu Atoll, and the luxury yacht Soneva in Aqua.
