Police have arrested three individuals in connection with the incident: two Maldivian men, aged 26 and 35, two days ago, and a 43-year-old woman arrested yesterday. The 26-year-old has been remanded in custody for 60 days, the 35-year-old for 30 days, and the woman will remain in custody until the investigation is complete.
The court order detailing the arrests states that the incident occurred in MA. Masfange, a location known for frequent criminal activities such as kidnappings, threats, and robberies. According to police, the victim was allegedly lured into the house by a woman, after which two men threatened him with a knife, stripped him, and took his phone.
The arrest warrant specifies that MVR 20,000 was transferred from the victim's account to another account, and an additional MVR 25,000 was withdrawn from an ATM using his card. There has been an uptick in robbery and intimidation crimes in the Male' area recently, often carried out by groups, according to police.
