Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has officially launch QR ticketing on Raajje Transport Link (RTL) buses.

MTCC said in a statement that the QR ticketing service is available on RTL buses operating in Male' city region, Addu city, Fuahmulah city and three locations in Laamu atoll which are Gan, Funadhoo and Isdhoo Kalaidhoo.

With the newly introduced bus service, you can buy bus tickets remotely from any location, through the RTL Travel app, or through the RTL website. This will facilitate customers using the service.

The QR ticketing application is available for free on Google Play Store and Apple Store. The "QR code" received after payment through the application is scanned after boarding the bus and the ticket is cut. Tickets can be used within seven days of purchase through the RTL Travel app.

“Despite the launch of QR ticketing, customers with RTL bus travel cards will still be able to travel using the card,” MTCC said.

People over the age of 65 and children under the age of three will be able to travel free of charge on presentation of their ID cards. Children with special needs will be able to travel free of charge on presentation of their National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) cards. In addition, school students in uniforms can use the RTL bus for free.

Speaking at the official launch of the service, MTCC CEO Adam Azim said that QR ticketing will be a very convenient service for the people.

“Today we are introducing ticketing facilities using modern technology,” Azim said.

The RTL launch ferry, launched to connect the country with an integrated national public ferry network, also uses QR ticketing. The first phase of the RTL launch ferry service has been completed and the service is being provided in Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu and Shaviyani atolls at affordable prices.
