The Juvenile Court on Monday remanded two girls, who were arrested over a gang violence video that recently went viral, for a period of 15 days.

The video depicts the victim of the attack, 15-year-old Nashfa Hassan who lives in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale, being verbally harassed and physically assaulted by three girls. The video was reportedly taken by another girl in alliance with the attackers. Although the video of the attack is said to have been shot in May 2018, the video was aggressively shared online only in late August.

In connection to the video, the police arrested two girls of 17 and 18 years of age on Sunday night under arrest warrants.

It remains unclear which two of the girls involved in the violence were arrested.

While the victim had gone missing for over a week after the video went viral on social media, Nashfa had presented herself to the police the following week of the search.

Her mother, Seema Ismail, earlier told local media that the attack was carried out only after Nashfa was 'taken' out of her home after the four girls came looking for her.

"Despite being invited inside the house, the girls insistently asked for Nashfa to meet them outside", said Seema.

On account of the four girls' militant behavior, Seema assertedly warned Nashfa not to comply with them, which her daughter did not heed. Seema stated that Nashfa had returned home 'soon' after that meeting but that she had a look of despair upon her return and refused to reveal what had happened.

According to Seema, she was only made aware of the attack after someone showed her the viral video. Seema further claimed that Nashfa went missing upon the video becoming viral online. She expressed her extreme dismay upon seeing the video and said that there is never an excuse for physical violence no matter how big a problem is.
