Police, on Sunday, made two arrests over the viral gang violence by a group of four young girls.

The viral video depicts the victim being taken to a secluded area near the 'China flats' in reclaimed suburb Hulhumale, where the victim was then verbally harassed and physically assaulted by three of the girls. The video is said to have been shot by another girl in alliance with the attackers. Although the video of the attack is said to have been shot in May 2018, the video was aggressively shared online only in late August.

Police revealed that two girls of ages 17 and 18 were arrested under a court order over the violence video.

Nashfa's mother, Seema Ismail, earlier reported that the attack was carried out only after Nashfa was 'taken' out of her home. Speaking to local news media 'Mihaaru', Seema stated that a group of four girls had come to her home looking for Nashfa.

"Despite being invited inside the house, the girls insistently asked for Nashfa to meet them outside", said Seema.

On account of the four girls' militant behavior, Seema assertedly warned Nashfa not to comply with them. However, she assured her mother that the four girls were her friends and maintained she will return home soon. Further explaining the events of the day of the attack, Seema stated that Nashfa had returned home 'soon' after that meeting but that she had a look of despair upon her return. When questioned about what happened, Nashfa refrained from confiding in her mother, keeping her mother in the dark about the attack.

According to Seema, she was only made aware of the attack after someone showed her the viral video. Seema further claimed that Nashfa went missing upon the video becoming viral online. She expressed her extreme dismay upon seeing the video and said that there is never an excuse for physical violence no matter how big a problem is.

However, Nashfa had presented herself to the police the following week of the search.
