Majilis Speaker Mohamed Nasheed's family has decided to take him to Germany to treat the injuries he sustained during the May 6 terror attack.

He was attacked by detonating an IED attached to a motorcycle, as he was getting into his car. The attack gravely injured Nasheed, who underwent multiple life-saving surgeries within the following 16 hours at ADK hospital.

Nasheed's elder brother Dr Ibrahim Naashid has told "Mihaaru" that the family was planning to take him to Germany to treat him further.

While the date was not yet determined, Naashid was sure they would know for sure by the end of Tuesday. Doctors in both countries were currently communicating on how to organise the transfer, Naashid said.

"We are working to take him there [Germany] as soon as possible," he said.

Naashid stated that the former president was doing well.

The doctors at ADK revealed that the shrapnel used in the IED harmed one of Nasheed's ribs. If one of the shrapnel that hit chest slightly lower, it would have hit his heart, the medical team had said.

To date, three people were arrested in relation to the attack on Nasheed, and their remand duration was set to 15 days.
