COVID-19: Two additional fatalities recorded

Health Protection Agency (HPA) on Monday announced two additional COVID-19 fatalities in Maldives.

According to the agency, both victims were local men who passed away one in Baa Atoll Eydhafushi and the other in Maafushi, Kaafu Atoll.

The man from Eydhafushi was 85-years-old and taken to Baa Eydhafushi Atoll hospital. He was declared dead at 0830hrs.

A little over an hour later, the 74-year-old man from Maafushi was declared dead at 0945hrs. He was tested positive afterwards.

This is the third death reported so far today. Earlier a 75-year-old Maldivian female admitted to IGMH ER was declared dead at 0400hrs.

With these developments, Maldives recorded 87 deaths in relation to COVID-19.

Currently, the country is experiencing its worst waves of COVID to date and recorded the highest number of cases within 24 hours on Sunday with 1,091 being tested positive.

Maldives recorded its first COVID related death on April 29, 2020.
