Parliament has today passed seven bills submitted by the government without bringing any major changes.

Parliament has today passed seven bills submitted by the government without bringing any major changes.

On today's agenda, parliament had debates on reports submitted by committees after reviewing bills proposed by the government over the past two weeks. Debates on all seven bills were completed today.

The bills were passed by Parliament as they had been approved by committees, without bringing any additional changes.

Bills passed by Parliament today

1. Foreign Investment Bill

2. Amendment to the Act on Business Registration

3. Amendment to the Act on Maldives' Financial Securities

4. Amendment to the Act on Provision of Health Serviceso

5. Amendment to the Act on Legal Profession in the Maldives

6. Urban Planning and Development Bill

7. Amendment to the Decentralization Act

Out of these, the Urban Planning and Development Bill and the amendments to the Decentralization Act did not receive any votes from opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) members.

The remaining five bills were passed unanimously by the 77 members in attendance, including members from MDP.

Deputy Speaker Ahmed Nazim announced today that 82 percent of this session's work has been completed.

The last sitting of the current session has been scheduled for 21:00 hrs tonight. it its believed that tonight's session will include deciding on the dismissal of the Prosecutor General.

Parliament will now go into recess on August 26, and will resume in October.
