Authorities have launched an investigation into an incident in Baa atoll Thulhaadhoo where a man used a pen camera to take a photograph of the ballot paper.
During the press conference held by the Elections Commission (EC) this afternoon to update the press on the ongoing presidential election, vice chief of the commission, Ismail Habeeb, said that they have been receiving numerous complaints about illegal photography and videography taking place inside voting centers.
Referring to the incident in Thulhaadhoo, Habeeb said that voting in the island has been suspended for the time being.
"The incident being investigated is about taking a photo using a pen allowed into the voting booth for the purpose of marking the ballot paper" he said.
Habeeb said the incident will be investigated and voting in the centre will resume soon.
According to Habeeb, complaints have been received questioning the validity of the vote due to the arrangement of the voting booths. He said that the Advisory Committee has been consulted regarding this matter, and a resolution will be determined after further study.
"I urge everyone not to commit such acts that goes against the laws and regulations." he said.
