President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that he hopes Baa atoll Thulhaadhoo airport is completed before 2023 ends.
He made the remark at Baa atoll Eydhafushi, as part of his campaign trail for (MDP)’s primary elections scheduled for January 28.
He said that Thulhaadhoo airport development project will be mobilised and contracted in the upcoming weeks. Solih said he hoped for land reclamation and construction work on the project to commence by mid-2023 and conclude before the year’s end.
The Maldives government forecast a total cost of MVR 21.9 million for the airport development project. The project was opened to bidders earlier in November 2022 under the cross-subsidy policy.
Speaking to the residents of the island, Solih said his administration’s pledge of having an airport about 20 to 30 minutes away from every island is being realised.
While the airport development project in Haa Alif atoll Hoarafushi has been completed, the projects in Meemu atoll Muli, Gaaf Alif atoll Faresmaathodaa, and Faafu atoll Magoodhoo are currently in progress.
