Velana International Airport (VIA) hits new air traffic movement record.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) said VIA’s air traffic movement had hit 925 on Saturday. The previous highest air traffic movement per day was 861 movements. The newest record is seven percent higher. On Saturday, there were 104 international flights, 116 domestic flights, 672 seaplane flights and 33 jets that flew from VIA.
MACL stated that while the new record for the airport was met on Saturday, it was also the day with the highest number of seaplane movements from the airport in its history. The previous record for highest number of seaplane movements from the airport was January 2, with a total of 659 movements.
Deputy Managing Director at MACL Ibrahim Thoha said the airport achieved such a feat with the help of all the agencies involved in the operations of the airport.
December and January are the peak periods at the airport every year. MACL has been taking steps to speed up the delivery of airport services within these two months.
