President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Mohamed Nasih has called for the salaries of civil servants working in all sectors of the civil service to be increased as soon as possible.

In a message he issued to mark International Workers' Day and Maldives' Civil Service Day, Nasih noted that the government, through efforts to increase pay and establish pay equity, has provided pay advancements to those working in the health and education sectors.

He, however, expressed concerns that many other sectors within the civil service remained without any such pay increments.

"It must be highlighted that workers in many civil service sectors still have not received this development (pay increment) in the desired manner," he said.

Every day that passes without establishing pay equity is detrimental towards the hiring of qualified persons to civil service sectors, as well as being demotivating to existing civil servants, Nasih said.

Nasih said that it is the mandate of civil service employees to work to implement the government's policies, and hence, importance must be given to promoting transparency in the services provided to the public, and with a view towards solving issues.

He called on all civil service employees to ensure to work according to the service charter of every government office, to the quality and duration asked of them.
