The case of Ali Hashim, who is accused of attaching the the IED on a motorbike, in the attempted assassination attack on Parliament speaker Mohamed Nasheed has been sent to prosecution from Maldives Police Service.
An IED attached to a motorcycle outside Nasheed’s residence exploded on May 6, injuring Nasheed and several others. Ten others have been arrested in connection to this case, including Ali Hashim from Noonu Manadhoo.
Cases involving four others have been sent to the Prosecutor General's office for prosecution previously. The suspected mastermind behind the attack, Mohamed Thasleem, was arrested on Saturday.
According to the police, Haisham was one of the leaders working on the assassination plot. He was the one that attached the IED on the motorcycle. Haisham, and others that worked alongside him, attached the IED on the motorcycle outside a flat building in Hulhumale.
Four cases has been sent to PGO previously; Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed from Vaavu Thinadhoo, Mujaz Ahmed from Male', Thahumeen Ahmed from Gaafu Alifu Kondey, and Ahmed Fathih from Laamu Gan.
The other individuals still being investigated regarding the May 6 attack are Fahumee Ali from Gaafu Alif Vilingili, Mohamed Naazim from Alif Alif Maalhos, Abdulla Ali Manik from Haa Alif Molhadhoo, Ishaagu from Male’ and Mohamed Thasleem from Haa Alif Hoarafushi.
