An agreement has been signed today under which the Islamic Waqf Fund will provide financial aid for the development of a Quran Class in Lhaviyani Atoll Naifaru, which is run by a private party.

Under the agreement, the Fund will provide assistance to build new classrooms at the 'Sheikh Nazil Institute'. The institute is known to have trained a high number of hafiz over the past years.

The agreement was signed by Deputy Minister of Islamic Affairs Sheikh Mutheeu Ismail and Sheikh Nazil Institute's founder Ahmed Nazil Mohamed.

Nazil received his Hafiz certification in 2019. Nazil told Mihaaru News that at present he teaches Quran through renting a classroom from another individual's Quran Centre. His classes are conducted from 3.45pm to 6pm.

However, this individual is now planning on ending his lease of the building. With this, Nazil will have no means of teaching his current 38 students. Due to this, he appealed for assistance from the Islamic Ministry.

The Islamic Ministry decided to provide MVR 300,000 from the Waqf Fund to aid Nazil to resume his classes.

Nazil said that the institute will be built with two classrooms, a staffroom and washrooms. He plans to build the institute on the lower floors of his father's residence. The structure of this building has already been completed. He estimates that approximately MVR 500,000 will need to be spend on completing construction and finishing. A private donor has now offered to fund the remaining MVR 200,000, he said.

The ministry estimates that the work on the institute will be completed within the next six months.

Nazil said that with the new building, a higher number of students can be accommodated in the Hifz classes.

The agreement with the ministry also states that ten percent of the students must be taught free of charge.

Nazil said that the five year plan states that 80 students can be accommodated.

A curriculum has also now been prepared ahead of the institute opening. As such, students will complete Hifz between Grade 1 and Grades 7 to 8.

Nazil's Quran class has produced 9 Hafiz to date. Nazil believes that an additional 8 students will receive the certification during Ramadan next year.
