Judicial Service Commission (JSC) scheduled the public hearing of Supreme Court Judge Abdulla Didi for 10 00 hours on June 20, at Dharubaaruge convention centre.

JSC's decision was made in compliance with Judge Didi's request for a public hearing. The Supreme Court judge lodged the request when he was summoned to the Commission to collect statements concerning ongoing investigations.

The proceeding marks the first instance of a public hearing regarding a judge.

JSC ordered the suspension of Judge Abdulla Didi on June 12 citing an ongoing police investigation. However, the Supreme Court issued a stay order on JSC's suspension the following day.

The commission subsequently rejected the court's stay order and maintained that the suspension was in effect. In response, the Supreme Court issued an order nullifying any and all actions taken by the commission or other state institutions which disregarded the stay order.

Judge Didi continues to formally attend duties at the court while under suspension.

The judicial watchdog formed a seven-member committee to investigate a total of five cases against Judge Didi.
