The woman, who was found dead in her home on Noonu atoll Manadhoo with suspected foul play, has been laid to rest this evening.
Naeema Moosa, who lived alone, was reported missing on Friday. The police had broken into her house after the report was filed. They discovered her body with several stab wounds and lacerations to her neck, according to sources from the island.
Usually, in suspected murders, the police conduct an autopsy on the body to determine the cause of death. However, they said that it was not necessary in this case because they were able to collect enough samples and evidence from the body.
A special team from the police headquarters in Malé is currently on the island investigating the matter. Meanwhile, the Manadhoo Island Council has banned all entry and exit from the island without notifying the police while the investigation is ongoing.
Neither the police nor the island council have made any official comments regarding the incident.
