MIFCO said that each fishing vessel weighing their catch at the company can take up to 10 tonnes of ice on credit at different intervals.
Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Ltd (MIFCO) has said that they will allow fishing vessels that weigh their catch at MIFCO to receive up to 10 tonnes of ice on credit from Saturday.
This move is aimed at encouraging more fishermen to go out to sea, the company said.
"Each fishing vessel weighing their catch at MIFCO can take up to 10 tonnes of ice on credit at different intervals," the company said.
According to MIFCO, the cost of the ice provided on credit will be deducted from the price of the catch weighed at MIFCO.
Last week, MIFCO provided three tonnes of ice free of charge to each fishing vessel to further encourage fishing activities.
Following a sharp decline in fishing in July, which led to a significant reduction in MIFCO's stock of fish and fish products, the industry has shown signs of recovery earlier this month.
