The campaign team of Ahmed Faris Maumoon has met with the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and People's National Congress (PNC) coalition to discuss the manifesto made by Faris.
Faris, who is the leader of the Maldives Reform Movement (MRM), contested as an independent candidate in the first round of the presidential election because the Elections Commission (EC) had decided to abolish his party due to a lack of the minimum required number of members.
PPM began discussions with Faris's team on Wednesday. However the team has not yet made a decision about a coalition.
According to PPM, their discussions with MRM was fruitful. They highlighted that the discussions were focused on how the policies in the Faris Maumoon manifesto can be implemented.
The party is also in talks about coalition with other parties who contested in the first round of the elections.
Mohamed Nazim, presidential candidate of Maldives National Party (MNP) is the only candidate so far who has formed a coalition with PPM/PNC, backing Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Both PPM/PNC and the Maldivian Democratic (MDP) are in discussions with other parties who contested in the first round, with the objective of working together in the second round of the election scheduled for September 30.
