President speaks at Princeton University on climate, economy and democracy

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu yesterday spoke at the Princeton University's School of Public and International Affairs as part of the Dean's Leadership Series, on invitation from Dean Amaney A. Jamal.

Speaking at the university, the President described Maldives as 'a development success story', sharing insights into the nation's transformation over recent years.

The President stated that he is committed to making Maldives an inclusive and prosperous society, which takes decisive action in climate change mitigation advocacy, and in international financial architecture reform.

President Muizzu stated that he would work towards diversifying the economy, enhancing leadership, and further strengthening democracy in the Maldives in order to avert climate disasters.

He highlighted the government's efforts towards building a digital economy, and increasing access and literacy in technology and artificial intelligence.

In his speech, the President reiterated support for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing the responsibility of the US to uphold human rights and respecting the right to peaceful protest. He stated that it is vital for universities to remain 'bastions of free thought and constructive discourse'.

After the President's address, he met with Dean Amaney where discussions centered around possible avenues of cooperation.
