An Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) specialist from the Maldives, Dr Aminath Ramsha has passed away, after losing her battle with cancer.
An Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) specialist from the Maldives, Dr Aminath Ramsha has passed away, after losing her battle with cancer.
It has been reported that Dr Ramsha, who previously worked at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), was diagnosed with the invasive disease while she was training to be an ENT specialist in Bangkok, Thailand.
Following her diagnosis, she received treatment in Bangkok, and completed her ENT training before she passed away.
Apart from her service to the medical field, Dr Ramsha was also an avid runner, having had represented Maldives in several international running tournaments.
Paying tribute to Dr Ramsha in a Facebook post, Chairperson of the Cancer Society of Maldives Juweriya Saeed highlighted Dr Ramsha’s efforts in creating awareness about cancer within the Maldivian community since the inception of the Cancer Society.
“Ramsha was someone who supported members immensely and was a very dear friend to us,” she wrote.
Dr Ramsha is also known for her medical advocacy work on the social media platform Club House during Covid-19. Ahmed Rasheed, an individual who met Dr Ramsha on the platform recalled the friendliness of the late doctor in advising people about medical conditions.
He especially noted her advocacy and assistance towards blind people.
“After many days, [I] got the opportunity to meet [her] when [we] met with blind children. She was a kind, courageous and exemplary personality. She continued to encourage many others while still fighting cancer,” he wrote.
