Malaysia has provided 561 scholarship opportunities in six fields of study.
Malaysia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maldives to provide 561 scholarship opportunities to Maldivian students seeking higher education.
The agreement was signed between Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) and the Ministry of Higher Education at a ceremony held at the ministry this morning.
EMGS, a state-owned enterprise under Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education, is responsible for promoting higher education in Malaysia.
The scholarships will be available in six fields:
- Arts and Humanities: 75 scholarships
- Engineering and Technology: 150 scholarships
- Life Sciences and Medicine: 63 scholarships
- Natural Sciences: 11 scholarships
- Social Sciences and Management: 255 scholarships
- Other Fields: 7 scholarships
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister of Higher Education Dr Maryam Mariya described the MoU as a golden opportunity for Maldivian students to gain quality higher education and training.
“This agreement symbolizes the progress of the education sector and highlights the importance both countries place on the development of educational institutions and collaboration with students,” she said.
In addition to financial concessions in the form of tuition fees, students will also receive support for visa processing and administrative arrangements through Malaysian authorities, EMGS said.
Malaysia is a popular destination for Maldivian students, with over 1,700 Maldivians currently pursuing higher education in the country.
