Although family members were at home at the time of Zakiyya’s death, it is believed they were either asleep or had gone to work.
A 50-year-old woman, identified as Zakiyya Moosa, was found dead with injuries on her body in Noonu atoll Holhudhoo earlier today.
According to a local resident who spoke with Mihaaru News, Zakiyya was discovered by municipal workers who arrived to collect garbage. She was found lying near a storeroom adjacent to the kitchen area of her home. “A large knife used for cutting fish was found nearby, and she had a severe gash on her neck,” the person said.
Another local speaking with Mihaaru News said Zakiyya had a history of mental health issues. She had completed Umrah last year, and her family was considered well off. Her husband owns a fishing vessel and is also involved in contract work on the island.
Zakiyya is survived by her husband and two sons. One son lives in Male', while the other lives in the same house with his wife and child.

Police said that they responded to a report received at 10:10 hrs about the woman this morning. She was transported to the Holhudhoo Health Center, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
"The health center informed the police that the woman was deceased upon arrival. Police are currently investigating the matter," the police said in a statement sent to the media.
A forensic team has been deployed to the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
