An individual has been arrested for stabbing a man inside a shop in Malé City last Friday night.
The Commissioner of Police, Mohamed Hameed, said in a tweet that the arrest was made under a court order following the findings of the police investigation.
The 30-year-old victim was critically injured and is being treated in the ICU of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
The police have linked four gangs to the ongoing violent attacks and damage to businesses in the capital city.
The hospitalised man was attacked with a sharp object while he was in a cosmetic shop. The Commissioner on Saturday linked this incident to a dispute between two men that occurred earlier this year between two gang members from "Kuda Henveyru" and "NC."
Two men wearing helmets to conceal their identities entered the "Juice Time" café in Hulhumalé and caused property damage using a hammer. A video has been posted on social media showing the two men leaving the premises on motorbikes after the incident.
Referring to the cases, he noted that organised groups calling themselves "Masodi" and "Vaikanmathi" had been vandalising properties in the Malé area.
