The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a constitutional appeal filed against Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer alleging that he had violated the constitution with regards to the state budget.

Attorneys Asad Shareef and Ibrahim Ramiz filed the case, alleging that the government had already spent the incurred expenses when it presented a supplementary budget of MVR 5 billion to the parliament this year.

The plea sought to declare that Minister Ameer had violated the law. However, the Registrar of the Supreme Court decided not to accept the case.

The decision can be presented to the judges for review.

The government presented a supplementary budget of MVR 5 billion to meet the government's expenses this year, when they had presented the state budget for 2023. According to the Constitution, if a supplementary budget is required, it has to be sent to parliament a month in advance.
