Maldives halts vaccination program for Eid holidays

Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) announced on Wednesday that the vaccination program for COVID-19 will be temporarily halted for the upcoming Eid holidays.

In a press conference, HEOC's spokesperson Dr. Nazla Rafeeq had said the vaccination program will be stopped on Thursday in the Greater Male' Area. Vaccination will be then halted for Eid.

"We will announce when we will resume vaccination. When the date to resume vaccination approaches, we will start making appointments," Dr. Nazla had said.

Starting with the weekend tomorrow, and with the days in between Eid and Independence day that has also been declared as public holidays by the government, the public will receive a total of 16 days as holidays. Government offices will reopen now on August 1.

So far, 319,712 people have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 246,849 people have received two doses, meaning that 50 percent of the Maldivian population have been fully vaccinated.
