BML warns against sharing internet banking credentials on third party websites

Bank of Maldives (BML), on Thursday, cautioned customers against using Internet banking credentials on third party websites to confirm transactions.

According to BML, certain websites including www.kashavaru.com attempt to use the bank’s internet banking platform to receive third party transfer confirmations.

After initially being requested to provide personal information such as name, contact number and account number, customers are required to enter internet banking username and password following the receival of a confirmation code.

BML warned that voluntarily sharing of personal credentials with third parties breached controls established to guarantee personal information confidentiality.

"At Bank of Maldives, we take the responsibility of protecting customers’ personal information very seriously and several security measures have been put in place to protect customer information against unauthorized access, theft or general misuse".

Assuring that such websites would be monitored and that steps would be taken to mitigate any potential risks, BML reiterated the message to refrain from sharing personal banking information.
