Import/Export revenues reach USD 23 million

According to statistics released by the Maldives Customs Service, the revenue generated from imports and exports in May 2023 reached USD 23.2 million (MVR 357 million). This represents a significant increase of 19 percent compared to the revenue generated during the same period of last year.

Exports saw an increase of 37 percent, contributing to a revenue of USD 12.5 million (MVR 193 million), while imports amounted to USD 298 million (MVR 4.6 billion) during the same period.

While India remains a major importer to the Maldives, goods were imported from the UAE, China, Oman, and Singapore as well.

Imports from India were valued at over USD 58 million (MVR 900 million), followed by UAE with imports worth USD 42 million (MVR 654 million). Imports from Oman amounted to USD 35 million (MVR 550 million) and imports from Singapore were valued at USD 25 million (MVR 400 million).

Thailand emerged as the primary destination for Maldives' exports. Additionally, Maldives exported goods to the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, and Bangladesh.

Last month, the Maldives received USD 155,645 (MVR 2.4 million) as royalties.

While 113 foreign vessels were used for importing goods into the Maldives, a total of 134 vessels departed the country.
