Minister of Housing, Land and Urban Development Dr Ali Haidar Ahmed has said that reclamation of the remaining part of GulhiFalhu, which is the deepest area, will be commencing soon.
This administration has changed the land use plan of GulhiFalhu and reallocated land plots after the previous administration led by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had allocated land for Male' residents and issued registries.
Speaking in a show on State TV last night, Haidar said that reclamation of the remaining land in GulhiFalhu will be started soon, saying that the land can only be handed over to recipients once reclamation is completed.
"We cannot handover land plots from GulhiFalhu yet. But we have allocated land plots now through a draw. There is an area in GulhiFalhu that needs reclamation. The deepest area. That work will commence soon," he said.
The previous administration had reclaimed 150 hectares of land from GulhiFalhu through a contract with Netherlands' company Boskalis. This administration, however, decided to reclaim an additional area of 85 hectares.
Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib said last month that the delays in commencing reclamation of this land via MTCC is faced due to financing for the project not yet being confirmed.
With the changes to the land use plan, an additional 3,530 land plots are to be issued from GulhiFalhu. The previous government's housing program had determined that 9000 plots of land will be allocated to Male' residents in GulhiFalhu, GiraavaruFalhu and Hulhumale'.
