Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has confirmed on Thursday that the alleged list of applicants disqualified from the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ flat scheme that is making rounds on social media is falsified.

In a statement released by the commission, it was revealed that the commission was able to verify that the list being circulated on social media regarding flat allocation under the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ scheme is not authentic upon investigation. The commission also said that they are looking into the matter further, and that necessary measures will be taken accordingly.

“We would like to take this opportunity to fully assure Maldivian citizens that there is no influence of any individual or entity in the operations of the commission. Upholding the law and safeguarding the people’s interest remains our top priority,” the statement reads.

The document in question claims that it contains the list of about 5,000 individuals who did not meet the requirements to become eligible for a flat as per ACC’s investigations but were still deemed eligible by the Housing Ministry of the former administration.

This comes about five months after ACC put a halt on the allocation of flats as per a permanent list of eligible candidates published by the former government, just two days before the incumbent administration was set to take over.

Two months after this, ACC revealed that 60 percent of the total of 4,000 individuals deemed eligible on that list were in fact, not eligible, and that out of those who are eligible, only 20.7 percent application forms had no issues. It was also highlighted that the remaining 19.7 percent application forms were eligible but contained discrepancies in the information provided.

Since then, ACC has greenlit the awarding of flats, but the current administration says that in light of the issues identified in ACC’s investigation, the Housing Ministry would re-evaluate all the forms and ensure that the flats are awarded to those who are actually eligible. In order to facilitate this process, an independent committee has been brought together as per the direction of President Dr. Abdulla Muizzu, the government said.

The development of the initial 4,000 housing units of the ‘Gedhoruveriya’ scheme was contracted to Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC).
