The Ministry of Education suspended a male civil servant working at the Landhoo School in Noonu Atoll, for allegedly supporting calls to hang incumbent President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

According to the ministry, the employee was suspended for a period of one month with pay, and will remain suspended until internal investigations conclude.

The threats against the president were voiced throughout the protests across Maldives to commemorate the one-year mark of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's incarceration.

Civil servants are often penalized for partaking in political affairs. However, most employees were allegedly forced to participate in various campaign activities during the tenure of former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
