Local media Mihaaru reported that a total of eight Maldivians are in custody in Sri Lanka, which issued a state of emergency after the multiple bombings on Easter Sunday.
An official of Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the three recently arrested individuals were remanded for seven days, but no further details were revealed.
According to Mihaaru, five are in custody including the three that were remanded on Sunday. However, there are three more that have yet to be summoned to court for their remand process. A total of 13 Maldivians were arrested in Sri Lanka following the terror attacks.
The Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Miuvan Mohamed stated that the Maldivian embassy is closely monitoring the situations of those who were arrested. He further disclosed that embassy officials escort the detainees to court for their remand process as well.
Out of the first six Maldivians arrested in Lanka, four were released.
The death toll in the bomb blasts in Sri Lanka number over 250, with more than 500 injured.
