The Parliament has passed an emergency motion urging the Maldives government to take all necessary measures to prevent Israeli troops from entering Rafah and reaffirmed its stance against such actions which could put millions of displaced Palestinians at risk.
Today, Parliament passed an emergency motion urging the government to take all necessary measures to prevent Israeli troops from entering Rafah, located south of Gaza.
Filing the issue, Hoarafushi MP Ahmed Saleem said that amidst escalating Israeli atrocities against Palestinians, Israel's readiness to enter Rafah in violation of international laws is deeply concerning for the global community. He also highlighted the blatant disregard for the calls of millions of people worldwide against the action.
"This will put hundreds of thousands of Palestinians already living in impoverished conditions in Rafah at risk and increase fears of a potential genocide in the region," MP Saleem said.
"This emergency motion reaffirms the Parliament's stance against the action and urges the government to take all necessary measures on behalf of the Maldives to prevent Israeli troops from entering Rafah," said MP Saleem, who also serves as the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
The emergency motion was accepted unanimously in the Parliament with support from the 22 MPs who participated in the vote.
