The central bank Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) on Saturday announced that although the greater Male region is currently under lockdown, banks will operational two days next week.
However, due to the circumstances surrounding the lockdown, the banks will only provide the most necessary services as per MMA. This includes International Transfers (ITT), Payroll requests, RTGS transfers and Money transfer services.
Banks will be open from 0930 hours till 12:30 hours on Sunday and Monday.
Customers are urged to take the online option for a particular service if its available instead of coming to the banks.
Due to the government being closed for the past four weeks, MMA has been updating customers on the specific dates on which banks operate.
In response to the first local transmission of the coronavirus, HPA issued a Red Alert for Male' City and placed the greater Male' region under lockdown, which has been extended to May 1.
Maldives now has 35 confirmed and 19 active cases of COVID-19, with a total of 16 recoveries.
The World Health Organization has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The novel coronavirus has infected over 2.2 million people and claimed over 154,726 lives around the world. However, out of those infected, more than 579,187 people have recovered.
