Solih said that the establishment of the current constitution was a MDP-led effort aimed at forming a government by the people and for the people.
Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that with the current state of affairs in Maldives, the days ahead are likely to be marked by challenges and fear.
Speaking at the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) rally held at Carnival area last night, Solih said that he would highlight upon the situation in Male'.
He said that stages were being set up in Male' and Hulhumale', music shows were being organized, and state-owned enterprises were taking employees on fishing trips, and highlighted that in the past few day promises to fulfill government pledges were being made.
Reflecting on the government's first year in office, Solih stated that many Maldivians are raising concern over government being unable to fulfill pledges without facing difficulties.
"We are seeing dark days ahead. Terrible, difficult days. If we do not act now, we may face cruel days," he said.
He said that the many sacrifices were made by people to establish the current constitution, which guarantees freedoms and rights.

However, he accused the current administration of undermining constitutional rights, dismantling independent institutions, and exacerbating financial hardship for citizens and businesses.
"We should come out without hesitation. Then there would be no choice but to listen. We will have to do things the way the people want. The power is in the hands of the people," he said.
"MDP will always be with the people. Not just on their side, but with them," the former president said.
He reiterated that rights and power are never freely granted but must be actively sought by the people.
