Former president Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has responded stating that MDP's majority in the parliament is the reason this government is obstructed from allocating flats and land plots as they please.
Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih responded that the housing flats and land plots determined to be allocated by the former Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)'s administration is hindered from being "distributed unfairly" due to the majority held by MDP in the parliament.
Speaking during the campaign activity of candidates contesting the three Henveiru constituencies in the parliamentary elections under the MDP ticket, Solih made this remark in response to a question from President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu regarding why housing provision hasn't occurred in the last five years, despite the majority held by the MDP in the parliament.
"[They were] unable to manipulate the list due to our majority in Parliament today. If that weren't the case, flats would be distributed to the people they favor under this list they speak of," said Solih, the current Advisor of MDP.
He reiterated that these flats and land plots will be assigned as drafted in the current list within a dedicated window if MDP manages to secure majority in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The former President further responded to the claims regarding the ongoing Gulhifalhu reclamation project, stating that an additional 85 hectares have been added to the original plan during the ceremony held on Wednesday night.
Revealing that 42 hectares from the first phase and 60 hectares from the second phase were reclaimed by the end of his presidential term, Solih said that the ongoing process is still the reclamation of land commenced during MDP's tenure.
"This is the most spoken topic now. That [President] Muizzu is reclaiming Gulhifalhu for the Male' residents. Utter lies. These are lies piled over lies," Solih said.
"That and this government has no relation."
Highlighting that reclaiming land from Gulhifaru is a positive development, the former President asserted that attempting to sow confusion not the best conduct.
Solih said that the current government was attempting to portray that the previous administration had done nothing for the public.
