Thailand announced on April 22, 2022, that it will no longer require fully vaccinated international tourists to undergo pre-arrival and on-arrival PCR testing. The new policy will take effect on May 1, 2022.

The revised protocols are detailed in the press release from Thailand's Tourism Authority. Travelers must show documentation of being completely vaccinated against Covid-19 and having travel health insurance that covers any Covid-related medical expenses for the duration of their stay in Thailand.

All overseas visitors must still register for the Thailand Pass, which checks their documents and issues a QR code. Travelers who have already been issued a Thailand Pass under the old system do not need to register for a new one, so long as their arrival date has not changed or is within seven days of the original date. Health insurance coverage must be for at least $10,000 US, down from the prior requirement of $20,000.

Tourists from the majority of countries are given a visa on arrival. Travelers from 18 countries (including Mexico and India) can now apply for an E-Visa on Arrival in advance through VHS Global, a Thailand Immigration Bureau authorized partner.

Travelers who have not had all of their vaccinations have two options. Non vaccinated travelers can show a negative PCR test taken up to 72 hours before travelling to be excused from quarantine. Non vaccinated passengers can also stay for five days in an Alternative Quarantine hotel and do a PCR test on day four or five.

When applying for the Thailand Pass, information about the decision including the reservation for the Alternative Quarantine accommodation, must be included on the paperwork. More information is available in this press release from Thailand's Tourism Authority.
