President Solih highlights vital role of accountants, auditors in ICAM meeting

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Monday, highlighted the vital role played by accountants and auditors in the development of a nation and assured continued assistance in developing the profession.

He made this statement in a meeting with the council members of recently established Institute of Chartered Accountants of Maldives (ICAM), held at the President’s Office on Monday afternoon.

The meeting was attended by ICAM President Hassan Ziyath, Vice-President Hassan Mohamed and members Fareeha Shareef, Hussain Niyazy, Malik Mohamed, Rifaath Jaleel and Ibrahim Fazeel.

During the sit down, President Solih stated that there are talented and capable Maldivians in this line of work and ICAM should work to ensure equal career opportunities are given to the locals in the accountancy profession.

The council affirmed President Solih that one of the key objectives of the institute is to develop local accountancy professionals and to ensure that the work carried out by these Individuals are in line with Internationally recognized standards.

The President also stated that the accountancy professionals' work require a greater degree of professionalism and are required to be able to maintain confidentiality, integrity and carry out their work with the proper due diligence and care.

Addressing this, council Members affirmed that institute members will work according to international standards, and accountants and auditors will be able to demonstrate professionalism and deliver quality work.

In concluding, ICAM President and Auditor General Hassan Ziyath expressed gratitude towards President Solih for giving the opportunity for council members to meet him and discuss the way forward in carrying out the mandate of the institute.
