Ex VP Jihad placed under quarantine

Former Vice President Abdulla Jihad was placed under quarantine at the facility established in Kuda Bandos, Kaafu Atoll.

According to local media outlet Mihaaru, the former vice president was quarantined for a 14-day period along with 15 other individuals upon returning from Bangkok, Thailand.

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) mandated quarantine for all incoming passengers to Maldives on Saturday with the exception of tourists checking into resorts. Thus far, 249 individuals were placed under observation under the measure.

Maldives currently has 13 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 10 active cases. The country recorded its first two recoveries on Friday, and the third this Saturday.

No Maldivians have tested positive for the virus as of yet. So far, only tourists and resort employees have confirmed infections with no local transmissions.

The World Health Organization has classified the spread of COVID-19 as a global pandemic. The novel coronavirus has infected more than 316,400 and claimed over 13,500 lives around the world. However, out of those infected, more than 95,900 have recovered.
