The Elections Commission (EC) announced that ballot papers, to be used in the upcoming presidential election, are being transported to designated islands.

Ahmed Akram, a member of EC, has stated that the ballot papers will be transported in security boxes that are to be placed at focal points, as overseen by EC officials and police officers.

Akram also went on to state that information regarding the company that was tasked with printing the ballot papers, as well as the total amount of ballots printed, would be disclosed to candidates and local media outlets later today.

According to the law, this information must be made public at least five days prior to the election.

The electoral watchdog has announced several security measures in order to guaranteed free and fair elections, including special security features on the ballot papers.

The opposition coalition has repeatedly voiced doubts regarding the fairness of the upcoming election.

This year, for the 262,135 individuals eligible to vote in the 2018 presidential elections, no less than 472 ballot boxes are to be placed across the country before voting commences on September 23.
