President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Thursday, September 22, appointed Ms. Mariyam Shafeeq as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).
Ms. Shafeeq's appointment follows the resignation of Mr. Ismail Azzam Wajeeh from the position. Prior to her appointment as the new NSPA chief executive, Ms. Shafeeq has been the Managing Director of Aasandha Company.
Wajeeh will be replacing her spot at the government-initiated health insurance company; Aasandha.
This marks the second time Ms. Shafeeq takes helm of NSPA. She previously held the designation during former president Abdulla Yameen's administration.
Following transition of presidential administration in 2018, she was shifted as the Managing Director of the health insurance company, making her the first female MD of a major state-owned enterprise (SOE).
Ms. Shafeeq attained her master's degree in Health Economics from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand.
