Local media Mihaaru News, announced that their annual and well anticipated 'Mihaaru Awards', a celebration of local sports achievements, is slated to take place on August 5.
This year, the ceremony is set to be held at Dharubaaruge, in Male' City.
According to an official spokesperson for Mihaaru Awards, the function will acknowledge the most notable names in sports across 2018.
Noting that it is expected to be a colourful event, the spokesperson also nodded to a variety of performances that are planned to entertain the gathering.
"In order to improve performances in sports, it is essential that we note, and appreciate all the efforts put in by athletes in courts and fields alike, throughout the year", he said.
"We wouldn't be able to hold this event without the support of our sponsors and we are honored to take on the responsibility".
Introduced in 2017, the sports awards recognize not only players but also coaches and referees from team sports such as football, volleyball as well as individual sports such as athletics, table tennis, swimming, and badminton.
Mihaaru Awards is the first such sports award platform in Maldives to have introduced individual sports categories.
In addition to the regular awards, in this ceremony, special recognition awards are given to athletes that have delivered outstanding performances in international competitions and also to those who have been serving sports for a long period of time.
Furthermore, the "Zahir Naseer Award" is given in remembrance of former Olympic Committee President Mohamed Zahir Naseer for the elite few deserving of a Lifetime Achievement recognition in the field of sports.
"We wouldn't be able to hold this event without the support of our sponsors", said Mihaaru's official, noting that the board is "honored to take on the responsibility".
The main sponsors of Mihaaru Awards are Ooredoo Maldives and Allied Insurance. The media partner for the event is local broadcasting channel VMedia.
Both the design of the awards and the event's official branding was carried out by its advertisement partner, Think Advertisement. The associate partners for the event are Sony Sports, Total Fitness Group (TFG), Veligaa Hardware, BHM Traders, Rainbow Enterprises Pvt Ltd and Print Lab.
Sponsors of the event echoed the importance of the awards ceremony as an essential means of recognition for local star athletes, with many declaring it to be vital for the progress of youth. The partners are unanimous in their wish to be part of the event with the hope of better supporting sports and serving the Maldivian youth community.
