Maldives' national women and men's badminton teams achieved bronze medals respectively at the 2019 Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG).
While Reunion Island and Mauritius won the gold and silver medal respectively in the women's badminton event, the two national teams attained equal points to the Maldivian team. Maldives was only unable to secure a higher accolade with a difference of a set.
Game 1: Maldives - 1/ Reunion - 4
Game 2: Maldives - 3/ Mauritius - 2
Maldives' national men's team also displayed a high level performance in the sporting event. Despite their losses on Saturday against Reunion and Mauritius each, they won with a score of 4- 1 against Madagascar and Seychelles respectively.
The next opportunity for the national badminton teams to win gold medals is in the Open Draw category.
