Mayor Azim reveals his aim for mosques in Male' region to have high standards of hygiene and upkeep, urging Maldivian workers hired to clean the mosques to work with compassion, patience and unity to achieve this.
Male' City Mayor, Adam Azim, has announced plans to install high-quality washrooms in mosques across Male', Vilimale', and Hulhumale'. He aims to achieve this goal within the next two years.
"God willing, mosques in Male', Vilimale', and Hulhumale' will have 'five-star' washrooms within the next two years," said Mayor Azim during the ceremony held to brief the public on mosque cleanliness, following the hiring of Maldivians to maintain the mosques.
He stated the importance of maintaining the washrooms in mosques hygienically, adding that it is crucial for the progress of the country.
"Washrooms in homes indicate the hygiene of people living there. That is a standard. Therefore, if you find untidy washrooms after entering the mosque, it is a very sad thing," the Mayor said during the ceremony held at the Islamic Center.
Azim explained that maintaining a clean and hygienic mosque presents challenges. However, he emphasized that challenges should not hinder progress; instead, they should strengthen determination to achieve success.
"The more difficult [the work], the more excited I am. What I want is to further strengthen the resolve to do the work. We are faced with something that needs to be done. Therefore, difficulties, challenges, exhaustion and boredom is not at all an option for people taking on the work," said Azim.
The mayor expressed his belief that the workers must head out for work right after Fajr prayers. He added that work must be done with the goal of bringing joy and fulfilment for the next person.
"If not, we should not even begin a work," he said.
The mayor stressed that each person must possess qualities of love, affection, and compassion, emphasizing that demeaning each other is not acceptable.
"With such a large workforce, there will be instances of difficulties, challenges, and conflicts. Each person is different. Even during such times, we request speaking with patience, compassion, and love to work on resolving the conflicts," said Azim.
The ceremony held Friday night was also attended by Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed. During the event, he declared that the Ministry's assistance is always available for the Council in maintaining clean and hygienic mosques. He further revealed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had also instructed as such.
