On March 19, 2022, Soneva Fushi, Baa Atoll will host the Maldives' first-ever TEDx event. TEDxBaaAtoll will be hosted by Soneva Fushi, a world-renowned resort on Kunfunadhoo, one of the atoll's major islands and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and will be part of an international network of TED-inspired events that highlight locally-driven ideas and elevate them to a global scale.

The TED-licensed event, which is independently organized, will include local perspectives on the theme of 'Slow Life,' focusing on how we might find a deeper purpose beyond the superficial. The event will take place on March 19th at Soneva Fushi. The Slow Life philosophy is centered around providing Soneva guests with remarkable, illuminating experiences that will enrich their lives while being consciously aware of the nature that surrounds them.

From community innovators to entrepreneurial leaders, TEDxBaaAtoll will bring together an inspirational lineup, each presenting their unique stories, perspectives and creative ideas on the TEDx platform.

Sonu Shivdasani, a pioneer in sustainable hospitality, will discuss why businesses should always have a purpose other than profit, as well as how luxury may coexist with sustainability and profound environmental care.

Yala Shameem, a Maldivian schoolgirl, is already pushing environmental projects in her community at the age of 13. She'll explain why it's critical for schools to adjust their teaching methods in order to educate students to become next-generation leaders.

Bruce Bromley, a seasoned chief financial officer and trustee for a non-profit foundation dedicated to mitigating the effects of climate change, will address the subject of why every company's CFO should also be its Chief Sustainability Officer.

Hussain 'Sendi' Rasheed, a local entrepreneur, mentor, and pioneer of the region's diving sector, as well as the Maldives' first PADI-certified course director, will explain why seaweed is much more than a weed, and how it can help us fight climate change.

Carissa Nimah, a Guardian of the Brand at Soneva (Chief Commercial Officer) with experience working with some of the world's most prestigious luxury brands, will discuss why a job title may be more important than we think, and what would happen if everyone had a job title that motivated and inspired them to be the most creative and purpose-driven version of themselves?

Shaziya 'Saazu' Saeed, a Maldivian professional diver, surfer, and marine conservationist, will speak on how the water can help you live a healthier, happier life. She will emphasise on how ‘Nothing else matters but the ocean’.

Entomologist Akib Jahir will look at how we might combat one of the world's most destructive critters, the mosquito, while preserving our planet's biodiversity and avoiding the use of hazardous chemical remedies that ruin local ecosystems.

TEDxBaaAtoll will be streamed live on the date with registrations open via the website.
