MET forecasts rain for next three days, possibility of swell waves

Maldives Meteorological Service (MET) has forecasted squally showers with strong winds and very rough seas across the country for the next three days.

The Maldives is experiencing its Southwestern Monsoon, or rainy season which began in early May and normally will extend to November.

According to MET, winds will be at 15 - 25 miles per hour with gusts reaching 45- 55 miles per hour during showers. They also forecasted that seas are expected to be very rough with the possibility of swell waves during high tides.

Seafarers have been advised to be cautious due to adverse weather conditions and take precautions to minimize its impact.

MET has forecast unusual rainfall in parts of the country during the southwestern monsoon this year.

Met has issued a Yellow Alert across the northernmost atolls from Haa Alif to Haa Dhaalu for strong winds of 25 – 30 mph and gusts of 50 mph with rough seas until 16:30 hrs this evening.

MET said that the northern and central regions of the Maldives are expected to experience heavier rainfall than usual during the upcoming months of July, August, and September, while the southern regions of the Maldives are expected to experience less rainfall than usual during this period.

The MET Office further anticipated that during this period, the maximum daytime and minimum overnight temperatures across all regions of the country will be higher than usual.
